The Thirteenth International Conference on Implementation and Application of Automata (CIAA) will take place in San Francisco, California, USA on July 21-24, 2008.

Finite automata are one of the most versatile and the most useful models with wide ranging applications. The CIAA conferences have focused on all aspects of finite automata and related models - theoretical studies, variants of classical models, implementation, and applications. The past conferences have an impressive record of publishing significant papers in the applications of finite automata in parsing and compilers, natural language processing, pattern matching and bioinformatics, among others. The conference also accepts papers that advance the state of the art in the theoretical study of finite automata, regular expressions, grammars and related formal models.

There is a growing number of software systems designed to manipulate automata, regular expressions, grammars, and related structures; examples include AGL, AMoRE , ASTL , Automate, FADELA, FinITE, FIRE Station , JFLAP , FSM , Grail+ , INR, Intex , MERLin , MONA , TESTAS , Turing's World , Vaucanson , WFSC and Whale Calf . One of the goals of this conference is to provide additions and enhancements to these packages as well as the development of software applications based on them.
The purpose of this conference is to bring together academic researchers and industrial pactitioners who have an interest in the theory, implementation, and application of finite automata and related structures.

The conference will be four days long this year. There will also be a new session of "Open Problems". The details can be found in the submission details .*** Note that the submission format has been changed ***
